The popular Munich Mash action sports festival will return to Olympiapark this year from June 27 to 29, marking its eleventh edition. Renowned for its spectacular BMX, wakeboarding, and skateboarding events, the festival offers top-tier performances and a blend of sports, arts, and culture. However, financial challenges have forced organizers to scale back the event’s scope slightly. Marion Schöne, CEO of Olympiapark GmbH, acknowledged the difficulty of securing long-term sponsors for the festival and confirmed that the city provides subsidies, although these are limited. As a result, the breaking contest has been removed from this year’s lineup, and some top athletes will be absent due to concurrent X-Games in Salt Lake City.
Despite the downsizing, organizers have worked hard to put together an impressive program featuring international competitors. BMX competitions, for instance, will showcase 12 top athletes performing tricks on the Miniramp setup by the Olympiasee. These include Germany's Paul Thölen (2023 vice-champion), Dean Florian (fourth place in 2024), and Tom Justice, Nick Bruce, and Jacob Thiem from Britain and the USA, respectively, who were the top three from last year’s event. Skateboarding fans can look forward to watching Tyler Edtmayer, Germany's leading park-skateboarder and two-time Olympian from Lenggries, along with other global stars competing in the Park discipline. Wakeboarding will also be a highlight, with athletes navigating the Olympiasee’s ramps in thrilling solo and team contests.
Munich Mash continues to serve as a platform for innovation, experimentation, and new formats in the action sports world, attracting widespread international attention. Andreas Zeiss, BMX coordinator for the festival since its inception, emphasized that the event offers elite athletes global visibility. Despite some logistical challenges, the festival maintains its core spirit, blending high-octane sports with engaging cultural experiences. The Mash Fest will feature workshops for skateboarding, dancing, and graffiti, as well as a Chill-out Area and the iconic Red Bull After Party on Saturday evening.
In keeping with its inclusive ethos, the festival remains free of charge for attendees. Visitors from around the world are invited to witness Munich Mash’s unique fusion of extreme sports and creative energy in the picturesque setting of Olympiapark, making it a vibrant and accessible event.
